Marla Calvert Miller is a Southwest Louisiana native and received her undergraduate degree from McNeese State University, where she graduated summa cum laude. She then went on to earn her J.D. from Baylor University Law School in 2006 and her LL.M. in Taxation from Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law in Chicago in 2007. Marla is licensed in both Louisiana and Texas and is board certified in tax law in Louisiana.
Marla began her professional career as a tax legal consultant with ‘Big-Four’ advisory firms in Washington, D.C. and Calgary, AB, Canada where she focused on corporate federal and international taxation. She then a continued her career in Houston, TX and Louisville, KY with global publicly traded companies serving in various in-house corporate tax counsel roles before she and her husband, Drew, relocated back to Lake Charles to be closer to family in 2017. Throughout her career, Marla has been responsible for developing and implementing strategies for companies to maintain compliance while maximizing profitability and tax savings. Marla’s practice at Stutes & Lavergne focuses on business and tax legal matters, including business planning and transactional matters, business taxation, start-up company formation, investor funding and operational planning, corporate litigation and estate planning.
When not working, Marla enjoys spending time with her family and friends, traveling, sports, reading and the arts.
